Three Klapas in Concert
An evening of traditional singing (“Klapa”) from Dalmatia, Croatia, with performances by three vocal ensembles; “Maestral” from Toronto - Canada, “Kartolina” from Windsor - Canada and “Krunik” from Kucine - Croatia. The word Klapa translates as "a group of friends" and traces its roots to littoral church singing. The singing is mainly acappella, but it can also be discreetly accompanied by some instruments, like a guitar or mandolin. Almost every Dalmatian town has its own klapa and sometimes many more of them. In 2012 Klapa music was inscribed in UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
