Evening in support of Turkey, Syria earthquake victims to be held at Oakville Town Hall

An evening in solidarity with victims of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria is being held Tuesday night at Oakville Town Hall. PEXELS PHOTO

Oakville residents are invited to attend a solidarity event Tuesday night (Feb. 28) in support victims of the recent earthquake in Syria and Turkey.

The special evening is being hosted by the Arab Canadian Vote Earthquake Taskforce and Ward 7 councillors Nav Nanda and Scott Xie and will be held at Oakville Town Hall, located at 1225 Trafalgar Rd., from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

The devastating earthquake that struck south-eastern Turkey, near the Syrian border in the early hours of Feb. 6 killed more than 40,000 people and left millions of others without a home.

A number of MPs and MPPs, Consul General of Türkiye, number of Canadian relief organizations, and local community groups will also be on hand to show their support.

“It is our responsibility to support each other in times of need, and it is time to do so,” said the Arab Canadian Vote Earthquake Taskforce.

“Please join us in showing support and send a message of hope to those who are affected by this massive tragedy.

The Arab Canadian Vote Earthquake Taskforce has been calling on Canadians to donate to relief effort, as well asking the Canadian government to provide aid to the people in the area where the earthquake struck.
