The second Empower Her Conference will return to elementary schools across the Durham District School Board Thursday, a program designed to “uplift, inspire, and give a voice” to young girls of colour in the school system.

The Empower Her Conference, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Durham’s public elementary schools, provides girls in grades 6, 7 and 8 who identify as Black with the opportunity to interact with strong female mentors at the conference and beyond.

The conference teaches the importance of setting goals to achieve the fullest potential and encourages participants to become leaders and changemakers within the community. Each school is encouraged to nominate three to four students for the project.
