Firefighters are working to extinguish a large grass fire near the border of Brampton and Caledon that’s caused the evacuation of nearby homes.

The blaze happened on Wednesday afternoon with Caledon Fire & Emergency Services saying the fire broke out near Mayfield Road and Bramalea Road.

The OPP says that while no injuries have been reported some homes in the area have been evacuated as a precaution. Police have not said how many homes are impacted or how many people have been displaced.

A photo of the fire shared by police shows a large plume of black smoke coming from a rural property with fire fighters and at least two engines on the scene.

The blaze has firefighters telling drivers to avoid the area of Bramalea Road and Mayfield Road, and police have closed Bramalea Road between Old School Road and Mayfield Road.
