Three beaches have been posted as unsafe in Durham Region, but if you’re looking to beat the heat this weekend on Lake Ontario, eight of the nine beaches are open for swimming.

The only beach on Lake Ontario posted this week is in Whitby, while Thorah Centennial Park Beach on Lake Simcoe and Kinsmen Beach on Lake Scugog were also posted as having elevated bacterial counts.

Both Frenchman’s Bay beaches in Pickering, Paradise Beach in Ajax, both Lakeview beaches in Oshawa, both Bowmanville beaches and Newcastle Beach Central were given the green light, as well as both beaches in Beaverton and Elgin Mill Pond in Uxbridge.

All 14 public beaches in Durham are monitored each week by Durham Region Health Department staff.
