Halton police are investigating after an elderly woman lost her wallet in a distraction theft that occurred at a Walmart parking lot in Milton.

Constable Steve Elms, Media Relations Officer for Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS), told insauga.com that the incident occurred on Jan. 14 between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

According to Elms, the victim had her wallet stolen from the Walmart parking lot after she placed her purse on the driver’s seat and was approached by a male party holding a tire air cap.

Elms said the male advised her that her rear tire had low pressure so the victim went around her vehicle to observe the tire with the suspect.

The victim then proceeded to get back into her car and drive home, until she realized that her purse had gone missing.

Elms said the victim also realized that several of her bank cards had been utilized for fraudulent transactions totalling approximately $9,000.

While the investigation is ongoing, the report does not indicate where purchases or cash withdrawals were made, according to Elms.

The suspect is described as a male with brown skin between 40 to 50 years of age.

According to Elms, the suspect was in the company of another male and female before the incident occurred.
