A townhouse in east-end Hamilton caused about $250,000 in damage on Tuesday night (Oct. 26), but it appears that nobody was injured.
Hamilton fire officials say they responded to a report of heavy smoke just before 6 p.m. on Harrisford Street. The lone occupant of the unit was alerted to the fire by smoke alarms and was able to get out unscathed. Firefighters were able to contain the multiple-alarm fire to that single unit.
Hamilton deputy fire chief Dan Milovanovic indicated “unattended cooking” might have caused the blaze, but the investigation of the fire’s cause is in its initial stage.
