East Hamilton gains new spot for shawarma, and much more

There is a new source in East Hamilton to try comfort food that ranges from Middle Eastern to South Asian to Western.

Crown Shawarma, located at 1357 Main St. E. between Huxley and Wexford avenues, recently opened. While shawarma — that thin-sliced stacked meat roasted on a vertical spit that has become popular for fast-casual dinners — is in the name, the new restaurant also has a variety. The menu also features burgers, chicken soulvaki, poutine, and samosas, so several points across the globe are covered.

Hours are 11:30 a.m. till 10 p.m. from Tuesday till Saturday. Not unlike many independent eateries in Hamilton, Crown Shawarma takes a weekday off, closing on Mondays.

The restaurant replaces the Italia Pizzeria, which was previously located in the space in the Crown Point East neighbourhood. The location is just west of the Main / Kenilworth Ave. intersection.

Orders may be placed by phone at 365-356-7000. Crown Shawarma is also partnered with the three major food delivery apps — DoorDash, SkipTheDishes, and UberEats. Through its early days, it has earned a 4.2-star rating (out of 5) on Google Reviews.
