Halton police arrested a man they believe was breaking into Burlington vehicles.

An alert resident called in a report of a car break-ins in the Orchard neighbourhood of Bluegrass Ln. and Dryden Ave. in the early morning hours today (Mar. 8).

Police arrested a man who they allege was in possession of break-in tools and items believed to be stolen from area vehicles (cash, perfume, sunglasses, purses, etc.)

Shad Atkin (33) of no fixed address was arrested around 4 a.m. and has been charged with possession of break-in instruments, possession of property obtained by crime, mischief under $5,000, trespass at night, and failure to comply with release order.

Atkin was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Police would like to remind residents of the value of reporting suspicious activity. In this case, they say one phone call likely prevented further break-ins to area vehicles and led to the arrest of a suspect.
