Durham Police have provided a few more details on the fatal car accident in north Oshawa early Monday morning but have not yet identified the victim.

Durham Police were called to a single motor vehicle collision on Grandview Street North and Rathburn Street – near the entrance to the Harmony Valley Dog Park – at 4:39 a.m. Monday.

Police say the 18-year-old driver was travelling south when it left the roadway and struck a light standard and sign. The single occupant was pronounced dead on the scene.

Members of the Collision Investigation Unit attended the collision and the area was closed for several hours while evidence was collected. The road has now reopened but the collision is still under investigation.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Detective Constable Emily Vander Duim of the Traffic Services Branch at (905) 579-1520 (toll free 1-888-579-1520) ext. 5227.
