If you have an interest in serving as a school trustee, the Durham District School Board wants you.

The board put out the call today for interested applicants to fill two vacant trustee seats until the term of office ends November 14, 2022.

Applications are due by June 13 at 4 p.m., with interviews of qualified candidates taking place on June 16, followed by the swearing in of the new trustees at the June 20 Board meeting.

To be considered for the position of DDSB trustee, applicants must be qualified to vote, must be a resident within the jurisdiction of the DDSB and must not be otherwise disqualified under the terms of the Education Act.

The first vacancy was created when Oshawa Trustee Linda Stone resigned last month after a series of controversial transphobic tweets. Vacancy number two occurred when Ajax Trustee Patrice Barnes threw her hat in the ring for the Progressive Conservatives in the June 2 provincial election. Barnes was successful and will represent Ajax Riding at Queen’s Park.

Interested candidates are encouraged to visit the DDSB Trustee Vacancy webpage for detailed information on eligibility criteria, how to apply, roles and responsibilities of school board trustees and additional resources for potential applicants related to the trustee vacancies.
