There were nine new Covid-19 cases in Durham Region yesterday, a welcome respite after a week with new case daily totals that reached as high as 22.

Five of the new cases were from Ajax, with three from Whitby. Oshawa, for the first time in more than a week, was Covid-free.

There are three people with Covid symptoms in local hospitals, with one still in ICU.

The number of confirmed Delta variant cases reported is 172, with eight active.

On the vaccination front, Durham saw a slight bump as the percentage of 12-plus residents fully vaccinated is now at 70 per cent.

Oshawa still lags behind its neighbours in vaccination rates, however. At 74.6 per cent, its rate for receiving at least one dose for its 18-plus population is within range, but the city’s rate for over-18 residents who are fully vaccinated sits at 66.7 per cent, the only Durham municipality under 70 per cent.
