Durham Police’s newest K9 officer ready to collar criminals in Ajax and across the region

Summit has reached the peak of his training and is reporting for duty with the Durham Police.

Summit, an 18 month-old Belgian Malinois who was bred in Florida and imported to Canada by Grassroots K-9, a Canadian business that breeds, imports and trains police dogs, is Durham’s newest member of the K9 Unit.

Detective Constable Dylan Dever and Summit completed their basic patrol certification after 14 weeks intensive training, certifying in numerous disciplines including tracking, building searches, evidence recovery, obedience, and handler protection.

“Summit is a high-energy dog that is always smiling. I would like to acknowledge Grassroots K-9 for their expertise in his training. We are looking forward to our first shift together,” said Dever.

D/C Dever and Summit will be patrolling Durham Region as a members of ‘A’ platoon.
