Police reform starts with increased diversity and one way to accomplish that is to hire more women.

That’s the plan in Durham anyway, and the Durham Region Police Service (DRPS) is actively recruiting women for careers in law enforcement with a Women’s Recruiting Symposium, a virtual event taking place Saturday, November 13 via Zoom.

The duties within policing are both challenging and rewarding, according to a news release from Durham Police, and the symposium – the fifth hosted by DRPS and the second straight done online – gives women information about the job and the hiring process, opportunities to pick the brains of woman on the force and what it takes to be a police officer.

The symposium will include panel discussions with women officers and their careers and exposure to different units within the organization.

To register, log onto the DRPS website, follow the career links and register by applying for the DRPS Women’s Recruiting Symposium 2021. A cover letter, resume/ OR letter of interest document is required; however, it will not be used in the selection process. If you do not have a DRPS account, one will need to be created prior to completing the registration process.

The deadline to register is October 22.

If you have questions about the symposium or registration process, contact the service at [email protected].

Applicants will be notified of their acceptance by email no later than October 29.
