Durham Police identify the man killed in Oshawa January 3, the Region’s first murder of 2022

Police have identified the victim of Durham’s first murder of 2022 who was found dead in Oshawa on Monday suffering “obvious signs of trauma.”
Saeid Mabrok Saeed Salem, 20, of Ottawa was found on Madison Avenue, a few blocks north of the Oshawa Centre, shortly after 11 p.m. January 3. Salem was rushed to a local hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.

The police announcement on Twitter, made as homicide detectives were en route to the scene, initially reported Salem had been shot, but a later statement from DRPS said he suffered unspecified, “obvious signs of trauma.”
Salem’s murder was the third is as many weeks following the killings of Mahishan Kugathasan, 19, on December 23 and Franklin Owusu, 27, on December 28, both in Ajax.
Police have not released a suspect description.
