The first phase of the Durham Live Casino & Entertainment project in Pickering opened to the public Monday.

The casino boasts 2,400 slot machines, nearly 100 table games and approximately 140 ‘live dealer’ stadium gaming terminals, as well as 10 restaurant and dining options.

The gaming floor and food and beverage amenities (with reduced occupancy levels to align with physical distancing requirements) are the only features to open during the first phase.

Future amenities include a 600-room hotel, dining options from fine dining to quick service, 150,000 square feet of fashion and retail stores and an entertainment district that will have cinemas, an outdoor amphitheater for concerts, a golf course, and a water park.

Jeff Quipp and his wife Jennifer, who own Ajax search marketing agency Search Engine People, paid a visit to the casino Tuesday and pronounced it “awesome.”

“Not everything is open yet, but it looks amazing. A big entertainment venue, many restaurants, and a huge casino area.” he said. “It’s beautiful, though many of the restaurants are still closed and no craft beers yet. Soon.”

The casino complex, which sits on a 240-acre site near Church Street, north of Bayly Avenue, is expected to eventually create 10,000 jobs and contribute $600 million in tax revenue to the City of Pickering.
