Durham Health wants contact tracing for household parties in Whitby and across the Region

Tenants and homeowners who host a social gathering now need to provide Durham Health with contact tracing information from their guests – if asked – or pay a fine.
Dr. Robert Kyle, Durham Region’s medical officer, issued the the section 22 order to mandate tracing on September 11. The requirement applies to any gathering of more than two people from different households.
Hosts now have to take down names and phone numbers of any guests. The contact information must be shared with Durham Health within 24 hours of their request. The Region expects people to hang on to this information for a month.
People who don’t comply with the order can be fined $5,000 per day.
All businesses must also maintain this information, or face $25,000 in fines per day.
The order comes after a steep rise in cases throughout Durham. The region reported 162 total active cases on September 15.
