Durham Delta numbers rise slightly but Covid cases remain low

The number of Delta variant Covid-19 cases in Durham Region jumped to 25 over the weekend but the total of new Covid cases has remained under 20 for the fourth consecutive day.

There were 15 new cases yesterday, with 12 identified in Ajax. The seven-day average in the Region stands at 16.7.

The number of active cases is 120, with one death reported in the past week. There have been 372 people in Durham who have died from the virus since the Pandemic was declared: 218 were in long term care or retirement homes.

Vaccination numbers continue to rise, with 558,039 doses administered. Seventy-two per cent of the adult population has received at least one dose, while 128,323 Durham residents have been fully vaxxed. That’s 21.8 per cent of the over-18 population and 17.4 per cent of all residents of the Region.

Oshawa continues to lag behind in vaccination rates: 68.1 of adults have received one dose and 18.7 per cent are fully vaccinated. Both numbers are the lowest in Durham.
