COVID numbers took another big spike Tuesday with 34 new cases reported, including a dozen from the region’s current hotbed of viral activity, Clarington.

Clarington was also responsible for eight of the 16 children currently home isolating after school and day care outbreaks jumped from seven to 11 yesterday. There are still two workplace outbreaks but thankfully Durham’s long-term care homes are still virus-free.

The active case count in Durham rose dramatically as well, from 156 to 171. There is one person in hospital.

Ajax (9) and Whitby (6) also showed higher than normal COVID activity and Brock Township reported its first positive case in weeks.

The fully vaccinated rate (12-plus), after being stagnant for a couple of days, nudged up to the 84 per cent mark, which is close to the Ontario average.
