Hamilton’s Dundurn Market is growing and plans to open a second location at the other end of the city in the coming months.

In an Instagram post shared Tuesday (May 4), the popular grocery store and cafe shared the news that their new location will be located on Ottawa Street.

“Enter the Ottawa Market, located on Ottawa St. North. We promise it to be a welcoming, safe space that we hope, in time will become a great little community space for the #crownpoint, #delta and #ottawastreet neighbourhoods,” the post said.

“The Market will be a fresh food market and hybrid cafe. In addition, it is being designed in such a way that once it is safe to do so, will be a great space for events such as cooking classes, live music, dance & yoga classes and pop up dinners.”

Over the years, the grocer, whose focus is on providing whole, fresh, seasonal, local, and organic products in store and through their very popular market box program, has become a community hub in the city’s West End.

The popularity of the market box program, especially during the pandemic, has helped fuel Dundurn Market’s growth and movement eastwards.

“We are literally running out of space on a daily basis,” Tuesday’s post said.

“The basement of the new Ottawa Market will eventually become a place that our delivery program can grow into.”

Dundurn Market’s entrepreneurial spirit and community involvement recently landed them among the 10 Hamilton finalists for the FirstOntario 1Award competition that rewards unique small businesses with cash and in-kind services to support growth.

Later this month, the Dundurn Market team will have the chance to pitch to the group of 1Award judges for a chance to win and share in $126,500 in cash ($25,000) and professional, in-kind services ($101,500).

As they prep their competitive pitch, preparations will be underway to set up the new shop at 204 Ottawa St. N.

The grand opening of Ottawa Market is still months out but the team encourages members of the community to follow the new shop’s progress on their brand new Instagram account.
