Drunk driver stopped at three times the legal limit with a backseat full of empties near Clarington school

Members of the Durham Regional Police Eastern Division, which serves and protects Clarington and East Oshawa, announced the arrest of a driver three-times the legal blood-alcohol limit near a school zone.
According DRPS, an experienced sergeant noticed the minivan driving through a residential area near a school zone. The sergeant pulled over the van around 10 a.m.
The driver was arrested and charged with impaired driving after blowing more than three-time the legal BAC of .08, puttingi them at least around .24
Notre Dame College put together a BAC chart to track intake, describing a .25 BAC as “All mental, physical, and sensory functions are severely impaired. You’re emotionally numb. There’s an increased risk of asphyxiation from choking on vomit and of seriously injuring yourself by falling or other accidents.”
On inspection the vehicle was found to have a back seat full of empties as crushed Budweiser cans spilled out of the vehicle after the sergeant opened the door.
Police did not confirm the status of the driver, but an arrest for impaired driving comes with a mandatory, automatic immediate roadside 90-day suspension, seven-day vehicle impound and a $550 penalty for a first offense.

Additional offenses will net a driver this penalties and a mandatory treatment program, up to a six-month period with an ignition interlock the car.
If convicted drivers face jail time, steep fines, license suspensions ranging from a year to the rest of their life and mandatory addictions treatment.
