OPP are beefing up efforts as of this week to get impaired and drunk drivers off the roads and highways in communities large and small across Ontario.
The provincial police force launches its annual Festive RIDE campaign this Thursday in Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton and elsewhere as it seeks to once again clamp down even harder on drivers who choose to get behind the wheel after drinking or using drugs.
The 2023 RIDE effort, in which officers will be conducting roadside spot checks both day and night for the next six-plus weeks, continues until Jan. 1.
During last year’s holiday season enforcement campaign, OPP officers charged 812 drivers across the province with impaired driving offences and, in total, conducted some 240,000 stops at RIDE spot check locations.
Municipal police forces across Ontario will also once again run their annual holiday season enforcement campaigns this year.
The Peel Regional Police 2023 holiday RIDE effort is slated to get underway in early or mid-December.
