Drugs, cash and child found by police inside Mississauga home; 2 people charged

Two Mississauga residents face drug charges after police found amounts of heroin and crystal meth in addition to nearly $50,000 in cash at a home in the city’s north end.

A Feb. 14 search by police officers of a Goreway Drive/Brandon Gate Drive area residence in Malton turned up:

• 1.10 kg of crystal methamphetamines
• 194.9 g of heroin
• 213 suspected opiate pills
• $46,145 in Canadian currency

Peel Regional Police said officers with the force’s 12 Division Community Incident Response Team executed the search warrant and subsequently arrested a man and woman. That unit is mandated to proactively patrol areas in the east end of the city in search of specific types of crimes and offenders.

During the search, a child was removed from the home and taken to safety, police added.

Police seized nearly $50,000 in cash in addition to amounts of drugs.

Sarbinder Kaur, 27, and Manthan Sharma, 25, are each charged with:

• possession for purpose of trafficking (two counts)
• possession for the purpose — heroin
• possession for the purpose — methamphetamines

Both were held for bail hearings and appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.

“This investigation is another reminder of the critical work our officers do every day to protect our community,” said Peel police Chief Nishan Duraiappah.

The chief added that by seizing the drugs, police have disrupted an alleged “harmful criminal network” in Mississauga.

“More importantly, we were able to remove a child from an unsafe environment, ensuring their safety.”
