A man from Whitby is one of two suspects now charged with multiple drug trafficking offences after they were pulled over by the OPP.

OPP officers were patrolling Hwy 11 in Nipigon on November 21. The small community is on the far side of Lake Superior from Whitby about 1,300 kilometres north.

While on patrol the officers pulled over a car. Police claim the officer found “a large quantity” of meth, cocaine and opioids. They also say they found numerous cell phones and drug paraphernalia, which are consistent with trafficking.

As a result of the seizure, Tasha McLarty, 45 of Toronto, and Alden Nunes, 42 of Whitby, each faces three charges of possession with intent to traffic for each drug found.

Both are set to appear in a Nipigon courtroom on February 14, 2023.

“Trafficking in opioids is a very serious offence. Dealers are knowingly distributing products that cause harm and could kill. The OPP is committed to supporting safe, healthy communities for all Ontarians,” the OPP said.
