Drug and firearms bust at Niagara Rainbow Bridge leads to three arrests and multiple charges laid

Three individuals from the U.S.A. were arrested and charged for carrying illegal firearms and drugs across at the Canadian port of entry yesterday (Sept 14).

According to the Canada Border Services Agency (C.B.S.A), the incident occurred during a vehicle’s secondary inspection.

“Upon examination of the vehicle and its occupants, officers discovered two prohibited firearms, 25 rounds of ammunition, two prohibited 18-round firearm magazines, 7 grams of suspected cocaine, 3.1 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine, and $9,997 of American currency believed to have acquired through the proceeds of crime,” Niagara Regional Police service said in a press release.

Subsequently, the occupants of the vehicles were arrested and nine criminal charges were laid against them including  possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm without holding a licence, proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000 and possession of crystal methamphetamine for the Purpose of trafficking, among others,

The suspects have been identified as Tina Caron (43 years), Tyana Brittany McLaughlin (23 years) and Anthony Mathew Vangel (23 years) who attended a bail hearing earlier today via video link.

They have been remanded into the custody of Ontario Correctional Services.
