Durham Police and the City of Pickering are warning residents of another ongoing scam in the region: this one involving text messages claiming parking fines that must be paid to avoid license suspension.
According to police you will never receive a text to pay for a parking infraction. “Do not click on any links. Be aware and alert from numbers you don’t know, and don’t fall victim to this scam.”
The City of Pickering was also clear that it would never communicate about financial information through a text message.
Have you received a text like this? It's a #scam.
