Drivers accused of drag racing on Fairview St in Burlington

A pair of drivers were charged in Burlington after Halton Regional Police say the drivers engaged in a drag race down Fairview St on Thursday (Aug. 14).

The information was shared on the Halton Police official Twitter account.

“Last time we checked, Fairview Street wasn’t a drag strip,” read the tweet.

According to police, the incident happened at around 6 p.m. The two vehicles were reportedly travelling 124 km/h in a 60 zone.

According to the Ontario Traffic Act, drivers who travel more than 50 km/h over the speed limit could face 6 demerit points, an immediate 7-day license suspension and vehicle impounding; a 2-year license suspension, 6 months in jail, a maximum fine of $2,000, and a 100 per cent insurance increase.
