An Oshawa man who crashed into a streetlight has been charged with impaired driving.

Around 5:30 p.m. on January 10, Durham Regional Police received a 911 call reporting an impaired driver. The report concerned a driver in the Mary Street and Beatrice Street area of north Oshawa.

Police say, the driver was behind the wheel of a white GMC pick-up truck and struck a light pole before police could arrive. When first responders reached the scene, the truck took off west on Beatrice, investigators allege.

He travelled a little more than half a kilometre before he crashed again, this time into a fence. The truck continued into a nearby yard on Sommerville Street and Beatrice until it hit a tree.

Mohamad Ghaznavi, 38, of Oshawa is charged with impaired driving, fleeing the scene of a crash and dangerous driving. He was later released from police custody with conditions.

Anyone with information about the crash can call Durham police at 1-888-579-1520 ext.2491 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
