Mississauga driver charged after car stops in live Highway 401 lane

A Mississauga resident is facing charges after a car pulled over by police on Highway 401 in London came to a complete stop in a live lane of traffic.

Middlesex OPP said in a news release the dangerous move by the driver took place in the westbound lanes of the busy stretch of highway just before 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to police, an officer with the OPP’s Highway Safety Division was on general patrol when they spotted a “suspicious vehicle.”

“A traffic stop was initiated, at which time the vehicle came to a stop in a live lane of traffic on the highway,” OPP said in the news release.

Subsequent investigation revealed the driver had allegedly consumed alcohol, according to police.

A 44-year-old Mississauga resident has been charged with drive motor vehicle, no permit and fail to stop on right for emergency vehicle.

The person was also given a three-day licence suspension for registering an alert during the roadside test for alcohol consumption.

OPP remind the public that if you see anything suspicious on the roads or suspect an impaired driver, call police at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
