Driver in Whitby nabbed doing 175 kilometres per hour

Police in Whitby recently laid a stunt driving charge against a motorist whom they clocked doing 175 kilometres per hour.
A photo of shared by the Ontario Provincial Police highway safety division showed that the Mr., or Ms. Heavyfoot was driving at night, when visibility can be reduced. The Whitby OPP, who made the arrest, patrol a stretch of Highway 401 through the city. The speed limit on the 401 is 100 km/h through Whitby.
By Ontario law, anyone who exceeds the speed limit by 50 km/h or more can be charged with stunt driving. The charge entails an automatic 30-day licence suspension and a 14-day vehicle impound.
As of April 1, when the penalties were last increased, the maxiumum fine for a stunt driving conviction is $10,000. and drivers also have to complete a driver improvement course.
The OPP recently stated that speed-related deaths on provincial highways hit a 10-year high in 2021. There were 81 last year.
