A Winnipeg man is facing charges after calling the cops on himself while allegedly driving around in a stolen truck from Mississauga.

Just before 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 12, the OPP says officers from the Nipigon Detachment were called to a local gas station in the area of Nipigon, some 120 kilometres east of Thunder Bay.

Police say the driver of a commercial vehicle had called for assistance with a locked fuel card. But when officers arrived they discovered the 2019 Peterbilt transport the man was driving had been reported stolen earlier that same day in Mississauga.

Mohammed Al-Bashiri, 48, of Winnipeg has been charged with Possession of Property Obtained By Crime Over $5,000.

The accused was released with a future court date to answer to the charge. None of the allegations have been proven in court.
