A driver hit a parked police cruiser in Hamilton on Monday night, which led to minor injuries for a officer and closures in both directions of Highway 403.

The Ontario Provincial Police said via Twitter that around 7:30 p.m. a cruiser was parked with its lights flashing on Hwy. 403 at Main Street East while a Burlington OPP officer assisted a motorist. An oncoming driver struck the cruiser and rolled over.

The portion of the westbound 403 that winds past Burlington Bay has been closed for over two hours. Drivers have been detoured through central Hamilton in order to avoid the crash scene, taking the exit to York Boulevard, before heading south on Dundurn Street and east on Aberdeen to link up again with the highway.

Portions of the eastbound 403 were also closed for a spell.

The injured officer has been taken to a nearby hospital.
