Driver gravely injured after SUV sideswiped by large truck near Toronto Pearson Airport

Police are seeking witnesses to an early morning crash on Canada Day in which a tractor-trailer sideswiped an SUV on a major highway near Toronto Pearson Airport in Mississauga.

Ontario Provincial Police said the collision on westbound Highway 401 at the exit ramp to Highway 427 occurred at around 4:30 a.m. and sent the driver of the SUV to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A passenger in the vehicle was also taken to hospital, police said, adding the white SUV was sent “out of control” after being struck by the large truck.

OPP are seeking witnesses to the early morning July 1 collision as their investigation continues.

Anyone with relevant information or dash cam footage is urged to call OPP at 416-235-4981.

The crash shut down the exit ramp for most of the day on Wednesday. The busy ramp reopened to traffic just before 4 p.m.
