Police have pulled a driver off the road after he was allegedly found with almost four times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

The traffic stop happened on Oct. 24 around 6 p.m. when officers from the OPP Caledon detachment got a call about a suspicious vehicle on Ivan Avenue.

After tracking down the suspicious vehicle, police say they discovered the male driver from Caledon was impaired by alcohol.

Police say the 41-year-old man had nearly four times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

The driver was arrested and charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus). The man also had his driver’s licence suspended for 90 days while the vehicle was impounded for a week.

Police agencies across Ontario are now conducting mandatory breathalyzer alcohol screening at every traffic stop on GTA highways, including the QEW and Highways 403 and 401.

Impaired driving offences in Ontario can lead to immediate licence suspensions, fines, vehicle impoundment, and enrollment in education or treatment programs.

Anyone who witnesses a speeding, suspicious or possibly impaired driver on Ontario roads can contact police by calling 911 when safe to do so. Anonymous tips may also be submitted to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or by visiting www.ontariocrimestoppers.ca.
