Drive-by shooting on Hwy. 401 leads to attempted murder charge against Brampton resident

A resident from Brampton was one of two people arrested following a recent drive-by shooting in eastern Ontario.

Officers from OPP’s Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Detachment began investigating after shots were fired from a vehicle towards another vehicle on Hwy. 401 on Wednesday, Dec. 20.

No injuries were reported.

“With the assistance of officers from Grenville and Leeds detachments, officers were able to locate the vehicle westbound on the 401 and stop it without incident,” said OPP.

Anuj Kumar, 20, from Brampton and Sanjay Kumar, 29, from Lindsay were arrested.

Both were charged with attempted murder and multiple firearm-related offences, including possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammo and possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and believe there is no public safety risk at this time.
