After serving as interim CEO for several months, Dr. Frank Martino has been officially appointed to President and CEO of William Osler Health System, which oversees Brampton’s lone full-service hospital.

Martino became interim CEO back in February after the previous head of the health system, Dr. Naveed Mohammad, stepped down from the position.

“We’re delighted that Dr. Martino will lead Osler in the exciting time ahead, and we thank him for providing the organization with invaluable guidance, support and stability during the recruitment period,” said Linda Franklin, Chair of William Osler Health System Board of Directors, in a statement today (Aug. 15).

Martino has been practicing family medicine in Brampton for decades and is still active in inpatient care, as well as in Osler’s emergency departments. He joined Osler in 1991.

Aside from CEO and interim CEO, he has also acted as Interim Vice-President of Quality & Medical Affairs, Chief of Staff, and Chief of Family Practice.

Martino said he’s “honoured to have the opportunity to lead Osler into the future.”

The new CEO is looking forward to future projects including the expansion of vital clinical programs and cancer care, establishing a new medical school with partners at Toronto Metropolitan University, and advancing redevelopment projects such as the new Peel Memorial Hospital.

Osler oversees Brampton Civic Hospital, the Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness in Brampton, and Toronto’s Etobicoke General Hospital.
