Dozens of summer programs in Mississauga will keep people of all ages busy

From swimming and group exercise classes to a variety of sports, creative sessions and author talks, there’s something to keep people of all ages and interests busy this summer in Mississauga.

The City of Mississauga says all the details on those and a wide range of other activities will be available online starting Monday, May 9 at 6 a.m.

Registration for Mississauga residents, both online and in-person, starts exactly one week later, on May 16 at 6 a.m. Non-resident registration begins on May 23.

Officials remind residents that registration for children’s summer camps, however, begins sooner, on May 2.

“With summer approaching, sign up for a summer program with the City. With a variety of exciting programs and activities available, there is loads for you, your family or your friends to enjoy,” City officials said in an email release.

Mississauga summer programs begin the week of July 4 and also include swimming lessons, aquatic exercise, art, dance, pre-school programming and various fitness classes.

“There’s something for everyone no matter your age, interest or ability,” City officials say.

The programs/activities will be held at various community facilities and locations across Mississauga including parks, libraries, community centres, pools and arenas.

The City is also offering summer camps for children ages four-and-a-half to 14 years old. Several camps are available, including those focused on recreational and creative learning activities and outdoor play, organized games, sports, arts, crafts, theme days and more.

Registration for the summer camps starts on May 2 and is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Some of the programs available include:

Outdoor Explorer programs

If you have little ones, the City is offering two Outdoor Explorer programs for children six to eight or three to four years old (with a parent). Participants will go on nature hikes, explore trees and learn through observation.

Citi Swim

If you are an avid swimmer, this program is a team oriented introduction to competitive swimming. It offers the opportunity to learn skills and improve fitness for youth. The program includes stroke and skill improvement and physical training.

Swim Sports

Swim Sports is a stand-alone sampler of various aquatic sports for youth. The program is designed to encourage swimmers of all abilities to learn the fundamentals of aquatic activities and sports that may be available in their community, and to pursue active, healthy lifestyles.

Fitness programs

Enjoy the fresh air and get fit with a variety of outdoor classes including Boot Camp, Yoga, Total Body Conditioning and Nordic Walking programs. The City is also introducing Bollywood fitness to the list of Zumba and dancefit programs offered at 12 fitness locations across the city.

Library

Mississauga’s 18 library locations are an excellent place to find a cool spot to read the newest novel from your favourite author, catch up on some work or just spend some time. Library customers can participate in a variety of virtual and in-person programs for all ages like storytimes, kids reading clubs and performers, book clubs, and teen maker and robotics programs.
