Ontario is getting another reason to look to the future of the automotive industry, as new electric vehicle (EV) incentives are popping up throughout the province.
In a recent announcement made on behalf of Jonathan Wilkinson, the Canadian Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, it was revealed that the federal government is injecting $5 million into a new strategy to bring 500 EV chargers to Canada, with 40 of them to be located in Ontario.
The central goal of this new strategy is to help build a coast-to-coast network of EV chargers that will help Canadians reduce their carbon footprint, specifically by looking to EVs as a viable way to travel across the country. Additionally, this new incentive is part of a much larger plan to manufacture and support Zero Emissions Vehicles (ZEVs) and ensure that all Canadian vehicle sales are ZEVs by 2035.
While the mentioned 40 EV chargers will be mainly dotted around the Toronto area, additional locations in Ontario will receive an economic boost as a result, as the construction of these chargers will support manufacturing plants in both Windsor and Brampton.
This new Canadian network of EV chargers will be allegedly ready by December 2025, according to the Canadian government, and will come with a specific online roadmap to help indicate to Canadians where to find them with ease.
