After the pilot project met with success last summer, St Catharines brought back the creation of wide pedestrian walkways on St. Paul Street in its downtown core.

So they brought it back again this year, blocking off the stretch between William and Carlisle Streets. However, during Step Two of the Province’s reopening plan, the walkways were initially created for Fridays and Saturdays.

Now that the Province is moving into Step Three starting July 16 and stores will allow 50 per cent customer capacity, including indoor dining for restaurants, the walkways are getting extended to Sundays, as well.

The closure will give restaurants the ability to spread patios out over the sidewalks so they can serve more customers and still meet physical distancing requirements.
