Drivers who park in downtown St. Catharines probably noticed that the Carlisle Street Parking Garage reopened this morning (August 8) after being shut down for maintenance since Friday (August 4).

However, they should enjoy it while they can as it’s being shut down for further routine maintenance this weekend, starting on Friday (August 11) at 6:30 pm and continuing until 6 am on Monday, August 14.

The city said to drivers, “We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding as we work to make the necessary repairs.”

Given the prominence the garage plays in the downtown area, the city offered up alternative parking spots.

The Garden Park lot (11 Garden Park) will be available for use. It has an hourly rate of $1.75 and a maximum three-hour rate of $5.25. The rates in effect Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. with free public parking available outside these hours.

The King Street lot (140 King St) has permit parking Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. but every evening and weekend is free public parking.

The Central Library lot (54 Church St) has an hourly rate of $1.75 and a maximum three-hour rate of $5.25. The rates in effect Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. with free public parking available outside these hours.

All three of those lots will be free of charge for the weekend when the Carlisle Street Parking Garage closes Friday night.
