Mississauga’s largest outdoor ice rink could be forced to close down to skaters today and tonight due to the latest winter storm expected to bring a blast of snow and cold to the city.

The Celebration Square rink in the downtown core, which is open to skaters daily from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m., could be impacted by the weather on Friday into Saturday, city officials say.

“As snowfall begins to ramp up, remember that the (Celebration Square) ice rink might be closed due to weather. Call our hotline at 905-615-3200, ext. 7465, to make sure it’s operational before you head out,” City of Mississauga officials said via social media early Friday afternoon.

The Celebration Square ice rink is free for public use and open daily throughout the winter, weather permitting. Officials say it may need to close temporarily during periods of heavy snow or warmer temperatures.

Residents can check the rink’s live webcam before heading out with their skates.

Skate rentals and sharpening services are available on-site at a cost. Heated patios and areas to sit and change into ice skates are also available.
