Police have taken an alleged impaired driver from Brampton off the road after he was witnessed swerving on a busy Ontario highway.

Officers with the OPP Highway Safety Division say police were in the area of Steeles Avenue and Highway 410 in Brampton when they witnessed a suspected impaired driver.

Police say the vehicle was seen “weaving within the lane” on the highway, according to a post on social media.

An investigation led police to determine the driver was impaired and allegedly had “double the legal limit” of alcohol in his system.

The 45-year-old Brampton man was charged with impaired driving offences, and police say the man’s licence has been suspended for a period of 90 days while the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Police say not to get behind the wheel if you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol and to plan for a safe ride home. If you suspect that someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, police say to call 911 to report it when it is safe to do so.
