Doors Open Hamilton will allow people to explore the city’s food scene

If you love food (who doesn’t?), history and culture, you might be happy to hear that Doors Open Ontario, which is returning to Hamilton this year, will highlight hidden gems both in and outside the city.
Doors Open Hamilton, an in-person and digital event that will run on May 6 and May 7, will allow residents and visitors to explore a number of local haunts, including food-oriented businesses, during walking tours in Dundas and along King William St. and James St. N.
The event, part of Doors Open Ontario, will be presented by the Hamilton Region Branch of the Agricultural Conservancy Ontario.
Doors Open Ontario, which will take place in Oshawa, Toronto, Burlington, Richmond Hill, Niagara-on-the-Lake and several other municipalities, will kick off in Guelph on April 29. The province-wide events will take place over 13 weekends and feature 22 events and highlight hundreds of local gems.
The event is run by the Ontario Heritage Trust.
“Ontarians can visit the province’s most fascinating places and discover exciting architectural, cultural and natural heritage experiences,” a news release reads, adding that the annual event allows residents to access buildings and spaces for free that are usually closed to the public or that normally charge for admission.

“This year, the Trust is exploring Ontario’s food culture and history. From breweries to farms, Doors Open events will also include sites or special programs to highlight our culinary or agricultural heritage.”
Digital events will also take place over the course of the initiative.
As for which Hamilton landmarks will be included, participants will be able to explore 38 Doors Open sites, including Nellie James Gourmet Food to Go, Picone Fine Food, Quatrefoil, Shawn & Ed Brewing Company, the Staircase Theatre, The Gasworks, the Whitehern Historic House and Garden, Carnegie Gallery, Dundas Music Hall, Fieldcote Memorial Park and Museum, Mystic Ramen, The Kitchen Witch (Glen Cambell Dairy) and more.
