Peel Regional Police are teaming up with a local food bank to help those in need in Mississauga and Brampton during Diwali.

This Sunday (Nov. 5), members of Peel police will be at the Fortinos location at 60 Quarry Edge Drive in Brampton to collect donations for the Diwali Food Drive.

Residents are asked to donate non-perishable food items in support of the Serva Food Bank, a registered not-for-profit under Sikhs Serving Canada “that engages Sikhs in a variety of local community-focused initiatives that benefit all Canadians.”

Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, is celebrated by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs and Buddhists across the world. This year Diwali falls on Nov. 12, and Brampton will be celebrating with live music and performances from local and international artists, free family-friendly events, food vendors and a 15-minute fireworks display – the largest and most spectacular of any city-run pyrotechnics show.

The Diwali Food Drive will run at Fortinos located at 60 Quarry Edge Drive on Nov. 5 from from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
