Don’t Fall For The Garbage Bin Scam In Mississauga

If you have received a flyer asking you to purchase a transponder tag for your garbage, do not follow the instructions — the “Ontario Bin Transponder Initiative” is a scam. 

According to a recent article in the Brampton Guardian, the Region of Peel is asking residents to ignore the flyers, as no officials are aware of any such newfangled garbage initiative.

The QEW South Post reports that the flyer asks residents to follow steps and visit www.1obt.ca to process a transaction.

If you receive these instructions, please ignore them. Your garbage will be picked up without you unnecessarily parting with your hard-earned lucre. 

The region has notified police and is asking anyone who receives a flyer to call 905-791-7800 to report it.
