Diversity Leadership bursary now available for Clarington high school graduates

Youth champions of diversity and inclusion in Clarington will now be able to apply for a $1,500 bursary to support their educational and career dreams.

The new Diversity Leadership Bursary provides $1,500 to an eligible graduating high-school student involved in activities and initiatives that create positive change related to diversity, inclusion, anti-racism, and accessibility in Clarington.

“In Clarington, our growing diversity is a source of strength for our community. We are fortunate to have many young leaders contributing to positive change,” said Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster. “The Diversity Leadership Bursary will support local students in advancing their education while helping to shape a more welcoming and inclusive community for us all in the future.”

The bursary is made available on behalf of Clarington’s Diversity Advisory Committee, an advisory body of Clarington residents that provides guidance and recommendations to Council and Municipal staff on issues related to diversity in the community.

Tenzin Shomar, Chair of Clarington’s Diversity Advisory Committee, said committee members were “thrilled” to launch the bursary. “The goal of the bursary is to encourage and celebrate young community leaders by alleviating some of the financial barriers associated with post-secondary education. We look forward to reviewing the applications and selecting a recipient after applications close on June 7.”
