Even though he received a tip from the great beyond, a Burlington lottery player had to rely on earthly luck to win a $100,000 prize.

Michael Taylor, 50, claimed the prize recently after he found he matched the last six of seven numbers in the Oct. 29 draw of Lotto 6/49.

A lottery player for more than 30 years, ironically it was the computer-generated Encore numbers that provided the winning combination despite him receiving some heavenly advice.

“My dad passed away, and in a dream, he gave me lottery numbers,” Taylor explained. “I’ve been playing them ever since.”

While the numbers from his father have yet to materialize with large earnings, Taylor said he gladly accepts what Encore had to offer.

A truck driver by profession, the grandfather said he went to the store to replay his ticket when he received the surprise of a lifetime.

“It was all kind of a blur,” he said. “When I saw $100,000 on the screen, my hands were shaking. I was so excited and happy of course.”

Taylor said he called his wife from the store to tell her the good news but she didn’t believe him.

“Stop lying to me!” she said.

Taylor said his thoughts have now turned to the future and is considering paying off his mortgage and retiring early.

“It’s definitely a positive experience – it was so fun,” he said.

The winning ticket was purchased at Fortinos on Appleby Line in Burlington.
