The Delta variant portion of Niagara Region’s existing COVID-19 cases has never been higher.

Today (August 25), 97.2 per cent of all cases in Niagara are identified as either Delta or “likely” to be Delta.

So when Niagara Health announced that there were 16 new COVID-19 cases today, it is likely they all were the Delta variant.

While the unvaccinated, single dose vaccinated and fully vaccinated are all being targeted by Delta, tellingly, across Ontario, 74 per cent of cases that are hospitalized are the unvaccinated while a staggering 80 per cent of the cases in the ICU are the never-dosed.

With a total of 143 active cases in Niagara, St Catharines remains at the top with 47, followed by Niagara Falls at 39. After that, Welland has 13 cases while Lincoln has 10.
