Delta variant has grip on Niagara Region as 21 new COVID-19 cases announced today

The Delta variant of COVID-19 is sweeping through the Niagara Region at an alarming rate these days.

There were 21 new cases today (August 20) and even with 10 cases being resolved, that still left the case count region-wide at 156.

The Delta variant now accounts for 91 per cent of all existing cases in Niagara.

The last time cases were higher than today’s was August 14 when the region had 25 new cases and prior to that, you have to go back to June 11 when there were 26.

St Catharines continues to be the hardest-hit municipality with 49 cases, followed by Niagara Falls with 32. Lincoln has 16 actives cases followed by Welland and Thorold at 15 each.
