A  deadly fire is being investigated by the Ontario Fire Marshall’s office after a Wainfleet woman arrived home last night (Feb. 9) at 8 pm to find Perry Rd. home ablaze with three people trapped inside.

She was able to get her two children, aged five and seven, out of the house but could not reach her 78-year-old aunt in time.

Niagara Police say that the children were both treated for smoke inhalation and burns, now in an out-of-town hospital.  They added both listed in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

When a firefighter was able to get the aunt out of the house, she has no pulse.

Police say when they arrived, “Heavy smoke could be seen in the area and upon arrival, the residence was fully engulfed in flames.”

The police are now working with the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal as to the cause of the fire while the Office of the Chief Coroner of Ontario is investigating the death.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the lead detective by dialing (905) 688-4111, option 3, extension 1008980.
